The following "meditation" is designed to launch you on a prayer journey, a one-on-one visitation with God. This style of praying reflects the ancient style of lectio divina spirituality, which involves "holy reading" of a Biblical passage and Listening to God's Voice in your hearts. We do not follow the Lectionary year in our reflections.
Sunday,August 29, 2010 "Spiritual Act of Worship."
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship." (Romans 12:1)
Jesus was a victim, yes He was! A humble carpenter or handyman was also the messenger of the world's Creator. Jesus chose to follow His Father's orders. "Abba" (Father) gave Jesus the honor and glory of being Divine, but the price Jesus paid was the torture of being crucified. Yet, Jesus accepted this torture because it was a preordained mission. The blood of Jesus spilled out of His own victimization, which appeals to many whom have suffered under evil oppressors.
Jesus' victimization reminds us that He, too, knew degradation at the hands of people and His blood washes away our loneliness as we unwillingly travel roads that lead to suffering. What other link do we have with Jesus besides being victims ourselves? And what can we do to strengthen our bonds with Him? "Offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship." God does not ask us to be crucified; but God asks us to remember the crucifixion through our remaining faithful in worship.
Say this simple prayer to affirm your faith in Jesus: "Heavenly Parent, we know we do not stand alone in our suffering. We know that You are there to watch over us and offer Your hand as we stumble. We appreciate Your presence in our lives."
